Who Are We Becoming? Higher Education and The Cost of Moral Decline
Preview:
Former civil rights activist and United States Representative John Lewis perhaps stated it best. “When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have to speak up. You have to say something; you have to do something.” However, such an inspiring call to action has become a bit of a conundrum as society increasingly appears to be shifting less and less from valuing facts and truth. Consequently, the voices of truth that seek to promote opportunity, fairness, and justice for all are being muffled over the blaring sound of controlled narratives and outright falsehoods. When was it decided that contrary to the childhood lessons of integrity, honor, and civil discourse, progress could be best found in lies, prejudice, and outright disrespect? This systematic derailment in moral and ethical foundations shared amongst society has edged our country and its higher educational system to an era riddled with complexity.
